The campus of Jefferson
General Hospital in Metairie and the campus of west Jefferson Medical Center
are now 100 percent tobacco-free. The smoking areas at both hospitals have been
removed. Tobacco use may contribute to diseases such as cancer, heart disease,
stroke, high blood pressure and COPD. Dr. Mark Peters president and chief
executive officer of East Jefferson says: “Many health – care organizations
across the country have implemented tobacco – free campuses and seen resulting improvements
in worker productivity, decreased health – care costs, improvement in the
health and quality of life.
